QK currently employs a team of nine experienced licensed land surveyors that operate both in the office and field environment, allowing us to help clients quickly with requests for service. The majority of QK’s clients over the years has been public agencies with their various needs to address capital projects, legal issues and construction activities. We currently help our client cities with survey services as their official City Engineer and/or City Surveyor. In addition to serving as the Surveyor of Record for these cities, QK acts as Surveyor of Record and performed topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, boundary surveys, and construction control surveys on countless projects throughout California.
Technology is the key to efficient and successful surveying projects; at QK we always look to improve our equipment and skills for the benefit of the client base. Using Global Positioning System (GPS), robotic and conventional equipment, QK’s land surveying department supports projects by providing the following services:
- Map Checking
- Construction Staking
- Boundary Surveys
- Topographic Surveys
- Right-of-Way Surveys and Maps
- Geodetic Control Surveys
- Aerial Photo Control Surveys
- Legal Descriptions
- ALTA Surveys
- Low-Altitude High Resolution Aerial Photogrammetry
- 3D Modeling
- Record of Survey
Advanced Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Mapping
In recent years, emerging technologies in robotics, and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) have been combined with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and powerful computing capabilities, to provide land surveyors and other mapping professionals with exciting new land measurement tools and solutions.
These “black box” technologies purport to offer inexperienced users with no surveying or photogrammetry training an opportunity to generate a variety of mapping information by simply pressing buttons. The truth is, a thorough knowledge of mapping standards, hands-on experience, and a much deeper understanding of the principles involved in the use of this technology are absolutely necessary to obtain desired results. Without those essentials, the information produced by these advanced systems is likely to be incorrect, inaccurate, and misunderstood – often leading to costly errors. Aside from being bad for business, hiring someone who is not properly licensed to perform a surveying or mapping project is likely a violation of state Land Surveying Statutes, at least in California.
Regardless of the system utilized, when planning a surveying or mapping project, it is important that work be supervised by an experienced land surveyor or certified photogrammetrist who truly understands the mathematics and geodetic principles involved, and who is able to avoid embarrassing and potentially expensive misinterpretation of the results.
QK can help you benefit from this emerging technology through our advanced UAS mapping capabilities that are managed by our licensed Professional Land Surveyors (PLS), as well as Land Surveyors in Training (LSIT).
The use of low altitude, high resolution photogrammetry can provide significant benefits on a multitude of engineering and land surveying projects. QK has been at the forefront of research into this technology since 2016 and has proved mapping capabilities on a similar accuracy level with terrestrial GPS surveys and can provide orthomosaic with resolution of 1 cm or less.
QK currently owns a fleet of nine Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and employs nine licensed FAA Part 107 Remote Pilots.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
A geographic information system (GIS) helps to visualize, analyze, interpret, integrate, and map data that has a spatial component.
Our GIS expertise and user-based approach has helped clients make better decisions in oil/gas/mineral exploration, natural resource management, urban and regional planning, environmental monitoring, forest management, public works and engineering, telecommunications, utilities, and transportation.
QK has been a pioneer in the development of global positioning system (GPS) utilization for base mapping in the San Joaquin Valley. Our team utilizes both survey grade and sub-meter grade GPS equipment to capture a variety of information, such as streets, street signs, utilities, pavement conditions, wetlands, endangered species habitat, vernal pools, and other man-made and natural features. We are dedicated to maintaining modern technology and trained personnel to remain a leader in this field.
QK can provide data to clients in many industry standard formats: geodatabases, shapefiles, map packages, layer packages, on-line websites, and display maps. QK is an ESRI Partner, and can use new or existing data to build web-based GIS services using ArcGIS Online. This service can be customized to present data either publicly or privately over the internet. Since this is a subscription service, the client has full access to the site without the need for additional software, hardware, or personnel.
QK offers the following geospatial analysis services:
- GPS Surveying and Mapping
- Digital Elevation Model (DEM) Extraction and Processing
- Digitizing and Data Conversion
- Database Development
- ArcGIS Python Automation & Development
- GIS Webmap Development
- ArcGIS Online Website Development
- Viewshed and Line-of-Site Analysis
- Geologic, Soils, Vegetation, and Hydrologic Mapping
- Citywide Land Use Capacity Analysis
