VISALIA, CA – As part of its leadership succession plan, QK, a long-standing regional engineering and planning firm, announces Ronald J. Wathen, PE as its President and CEO. With this announcement, the company’s former, long-term President and CEO Michael D. Knopf, PE, PLS will remain Chairman of the QK Board of Directors.

Implementing this succession plan coincides with the company’s 20-year anniversary of the 1998 merger between Quad Engineering and Knopf Engineering. The shift in leadership is viewed as perfect timing by the company as it looks toward building on its nearly 50-year foundation for the future.

Wathen, a civil engineer, is a Central San Joaquin Valley native and has been with QK for nearly 15 years. While holding various QK leadership positions, Wathen is well-known within the industry for his years of client service throughout the region. Wathen has been recognized for serving in leadership roles, including former President and current State Director of the San Joaquin Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC); Board Member of the Fresno/Madera Building Industry Association (BIA), former Board Chairman of the Saint Agnes Medical Center Foundation; and past President of the Saint Agnes Men’s Club. Wathen enjoys spending time with his wife, Tricia, as they keep up with their three very active children Tera, Bret and Jamie.

Joining Ron Wathen on QK’s executive team is: Amber Adams, VP of Business and Operations; Janel Freeman, CFO; Garth Pecchenino, PE, PLS, VP of Technical Services; and Jeff Cowart, PE, VP of Quality Control and Municipal Services.

“One of the things I value most about QK is our company’s deep roots in the San Joaquin Valley, and its commitment to the community I have always called home,” said Wathen. “I know I can speak for everyone when I say, Mike Knopf has been a leadership pillar and visionary voice for the company since 1998. I am humbled and honored to be named his successor, and look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead for our entire team and the clients we help daily.”

QK recently went through a company-wide rebranding process – changing its name from Quad Knopf to QK. With over 110 employees, QK continues to grow with offices in Visalia, Fresno, Merced, Roseville, Bakersfield, Denver and most recently, Porterville. The firm remains respected within the industry for its five distinct service divisions: 1) Engineering Design & Construction Management; 2) Survey & GIS; 3) Urban Design & Landscape Architecture; 4) Planning; and 5) Biology & Environmental Permitting.

“I am proud to know QK is a trusted community partner with many valued clients, and I am confident our tradition of unparalleled service and trusted relationships will continue under Ron’s strong leadership,” said Mike Knopf. “It’s been my absolute pleasure to work alongside the amazing QK team, building a legacy of quality and innovation. QK is in good hands. I look forward to what’s next – the future, because I know it will be bright.”
