Land Surveying
QK employs a team of nine experienced licensed land surveyors that operate both in the office and field environment, allowing us to help clients quickly with requests for service. The majority of our clients have been public agencies needing to address capital projects, legal issues and construction activities. We help our client cities with survey services as their official City Engineer and/or City Surveyor. In addition to serving as the Surveyor of Record for these cities, QK acts as Surveyor of Record and performs topographic surveys, ALTA surveys, boundary surveys, and construction control surveys on countless projects throughout California.

Advanced Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Mapping
In recent years, emerging technologies in robotics, and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) have been combined with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and powerful computing capabilities, to provide land surveyors and other mapping professionals with exciting new land measurement tools and solutions.
These “black box” technologies purport to offer inexperienced users with no surveying or photogrammetry training an opportunity to generate a variety of mapping information by simply pressing buttons. The truth is, a thorough knowledge of mapping standards, hands-on experience, and a much deeper understanding of the principles involved in the use of this technology are absolutely necessary to obtain desired results. Without those essentials, the information produced by these advanced systems is likely to be incorrect, inaccurate, and misunderstood – often leading to costly errors. Aside from being bad for business, hiring someone who is not properly licensed to perform a surveying or mapping project is likely a violation of state Land Surveying Statutes, at least in California.
Regardless of the system utilized, when planning a surveying or mapping project, it is important that work be supervised by an experienced land surveyor or certified photogrammetrist who truly understands the mathematics and geodetic principles involved, and who is able to avoid embarrassing and potentially expensive misinterpretation of the results.
QK can help you benefit from this emerging technology through our advanced UAS mapping capabilities that are managed by our licensed Professional Land Surveyors (PLS), as well as Land Surveyors in Training (LSIT).
The use of low altitude, high-resolution photogrammetry can provide significant benefits on a multitude of engineering and land surveying projects. QK has been at the forefront of research into this technology since 2016 and has proved mapping capabilities on a similar accuracy level with terrestrial GPS surveys and can provide orthomosaic with a resolution of 1 cm or less.
