STUDENT HOUSING COMPLEX
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, BAKERSFIELD – BAKERSFIELD, CA
QK partnered with Steinberg Architects as part of a design/build team to develop plans for the site. We also provided civil engineering services for the university, including a topographic survey of the site and the preparation of a base map. Before building, our firm developed the site infrastructure for the new housing project, which included grading, drainage, water, sewer, and paving plans to support pedestrian and vehicle circulation. We also provided utility services for the university, including utility plans developed by the design team, coordinated applications with utility companies, and participation in joint utility pre-construction meetings with the contractor and utility company representatives.
We provided assistance at construction progress meetings to insure that the owner, architect, and contractor were able to collaborate effectively. Our ultimate goal was to help them successfully complete the project on budget and on schedule.
In order to accommodate the CSU Bakersfield student body, we were charged with developing facilities that addressed residents’ living and recreational needs.
Phase 1 of the project has been completed. The 7.5-acre parcel currently has two housing units with 500 beds and a commons building.
After the development and construction of the new student housing project, the facility received the 2015 San Joaquin Valley Blueprint Award of Merit for Residential Projects.
